Cycle of audiovisual microevents, Spring-Fall 2008

Process-oriented and informal in nature, the research and production of this work with immersive sound, moving image, drawing and light
is informed by the realities of gray water in various states of composition, decomposition and recomposition. The source material originates in
the natural « Eco Machines » system, pioneered by biologist and ecologist Dr. John Todd situated situated at the rest area of Sharon, Vermont
and the Station d'épuration des eaux usées, an industrial system for the city of Montreal.

The project also finds its inspiration in the concept of the transduction as defined by French philosopher Gilbert Simondon (1928-1989),
by which nature, information and technology are inextricably linked. The series will be performed in an intimate setting,
reflecting the greek root of the word ecology, oikos, which means « house ».


De nature informelle et privilégiant une approche processuelle, l’essence de la série inclut le son immersif, l'image en mouvement, le dessin et la lumière,
et repose sur les réalités de composition, de décomposition et de recomposition des eaux usées. La matière visuelle et sonore provient des
« EcoMachines », un système naturel perfectionné par le biologiste John Todd situé à l'aire de repos à Sharon au Vermont
et la méthode industrielle de la Station d'épuration des eaux usées desservant la ville de Montréal.

Le concept de transduction guide également l’ensemble du processus de réalisation, la théorie du philosophe français des sciences
Gilbert Simondon (1928-1989) sur la relation coévolutive entre nature, information et technologie. 
La série se déroule dans une situation intimiste, soulignant ainsi la racine grecque du mot écologie, eikos, qui signifie « maison ».

After three years of national and international presentations (Berlin, Karlsruhe, Madrid, Rotterdam, Budapest, Paris, Beijing, Toronto,
Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, Riga), AElab is very happy to show this new work in their hometown of Montréal.

Stéphane Claude is a musician, mastering sound engineer and audio coordinator at Oboro.
Gisèle Trudel is a media artist and professor at l'École des arts visuels et médiatiques de l'UQAM.
